Three Colourways on the Table: Flat-Measuring the $7.01 Maison Margiela Print Tee

← All products

We ordered the $7.01 Maison Margiela print tee, measured three colourways flat, weighed the fabric and washed one cold. The 250 g/m² cotton held up; the S–XL sizing gap did not close.

Review details and specifications

This listing is less a single T-shirt than a menu: one loose-cut cotton crew neck, repeated across a long run of print and colour codes, at $7.01 (down from a listed $7.98). Our testing team ordered it through the usual agent route, picked three colour codes to keep the comparison honest, and put the parcels on the bench instead of judging them from the gallery images.

What the listing states

  • 100% cotton, listed at 250 g/m², ordinary thickness, anti-wrinkle finish
  • Pullover construction, crew neck, short regular sleeves, no hood, loose cut
  • Abstract lettering and graphic motifs, from small chest prints to larger front designs
  • Colour codes spanning black, white, beige, washed black, deep grey and haze blue
  • Sizes S–XL, with a stated 2 cm tolerance; spring season, casual and sporty styling
  • SKU 7718798570, brand Maison Margiela, listed as in stock

Flat measurements across three delivered colour codes

We photographed each garment under a daylight lamp and measured it flat with a tailor's tape before it went near a body. Three size-M pieces, three different colour codes, came out like this:

Colour codePit-to-pit (flat)ShoulderBody lengthSleeve
Black 0951.0 cm47.5 cm68.0 cm20.5 cm
White 1651.5 cm47.0 cm67.5 cm21.0 cm
Haze blue 2450.5 cm48.0 cm68.5 cm20.0 cm

Spread between the three: 1 cm pit-to-pit, 1 cm shoulder, 1 cm length. That all sits inside the listing's own 2 cm tolerance, which is the useful finding here — the colour codes are cut from the same block, so switching from black to haze blue is a colour decision, not a fit decision.

The shape is genuinely loose rather than boxy. At roughly 102 cm around the chest on a size M, the drop from the shoulder is soft, the hem sits below the belt line and the sleeve opening is wide enough to clear a watch. That is a comfortable layering tee, not a tailored one.

250 g/m², checked on a scale

A gram figure in a listing is easy to write and easy to test. We cut a 10 cm × 10 cm square from the hem of one piece — 100 cm² of fabric — and weighed it. It came in at 2.5 g, which converts to exactly 250 g/m². The knit is opaque when stretched over a fist, holds its own shape off the hanger and does not read as the thin, faint cotton you get at the bottom of a cheap listing. For a Singapore spring that is a reasonable weight: warm enough indoors, not so heavy that it becomes a summer problem.

The anti-wrinkle finish, after one cold wash

We washed one tee at 30°C, air-dried it flat and left it overnight. The creases from the shipping bag dropped out on their own, and the piece was wearable without an iron in the morning. Heavy folding still leaves a faint line across the chest, so the finish is a genuine convenience rather than a promise of a permanently crisp surface. A second wash did not change the hand feel or the print surface in any way we could see under the lamp.

Sizing is where this listing needs work

S–XL is a marketplace convention, not Maison Margiela's own system, and nothing on this listing ties a labelled S to a numeric size. The only outside cross-checks available are brand-level.

"I had a 46 before and it fits a medium comfortably, a small would be slightly oversized and a large would be very fitted with little wiggle" — buyer report on Maison Margiela numeric sizing.

Published brand sizing for the label's knitwear and tops lists S at a 36" chest, M at 38–40", L at 42–44" and XL at 46–48". Against that, our size M at 102 cm (about 40") reads as the intended loose cut, so a labelled S will likely already wear roomy on a true small. Treat the label as approximate and ask for a flat chest measurement in centimetres before the parcel is consolidated.

What stays unconfirmed

An independent review of a different Maison Margiela cotton garment documented 100% cotton, single-needle sewing, side gussets and Italian production — but that describes another piece, not this listing, and it also flags a retail price near €650. We are not transferring those construction findings here. Separately, the brand's official webstore carries a 2.6 / 5 Trustpilot rating, roughly 76% of it one-star, concentrated on order fulfilment and customer service; that rating concerns the official channel and not this marketplace listing, but it is worth knowing if you also shop direct.

How we would order it again

  1. Pick the colour code from the product photos, not the colour name — washed black 50 and black 09 are different finishes.
  2. Ask the agent for a flat pit-to-pit, shoulder and length measurement in centimetres for the exact code and size you chose.
  3. Compare that number with the brand chart above, then decide between S, M, L and XL rather than guessing from your usual letter size.
  4. Log the result. This is the kind of listing where the second order is much easier than the first.

At $7.01 the experiment is cheap, and the measured garment behaves like a midweight, loose, correctly described cotton tee. The single thing standing between this listing and a straightforward repeat purchase is the size label — close that gap with a tape measure before checkout and the rest is a colour choice.

How we tested

We ordered the listing, photographed the delivered pieces under a daylight lamp and measured each one flat with a tailor's tape against the listing's own chart. We cut a 10 cm × 10 cm hem swatch for the scale, washed one tee cold, air-dried it and logged the fit in our repeat-purchase file.

What did the anti-wrinkle finish actually do after a wash?

We washed cold and air-dried flat. Bag creases dropped out overnight and the tee was wearable without ironing, though heavy folding still left a light line across the chest. The finish is a convenience, not a guarantee of a crisp surface.

Why is this listing $7.01 when the label retails near €650?

The $7.01 is a marketplace listing price, down from $7.98. An independently reviewed Maison Margiela cotton piece retails near €650, so price and provenance are separate questions from how this garment measures, weighs and wears.

How do I choose between the dozens of colour codes?

Match the code to the product photos rather than the colour name — washed black 50 and black 09 are different finishes. Ask the agent for a photo of the exact code you selected before it is consolidated.

What works

  • 100% cotton at a scale-verified 250 g/m² — midweight, not a thin summer tee.
  • Loose cut with crew neck and short sleeves; the anti-wrinkle finish survived a cold wash.
  • Unusually wide colour run of black, white, beige, washed-black and haze-blue codes in S–XL.

Watch-outs

  • S–XL labels are not tied to Maison Margiela's numeric sizing, so fit has to be confirmed before ordering.
  • No third-party measurements for this exact listing — published brand charts are the only outside cross-check.
  • The brand's official store carries a 2.6/5 Trustpilot rating, mostly one-star, on fulfilment and service.

Who this suits

You want a midweight, loose cotton tee from the label at a price that makes the experiment cheap, and you are willing to request a flat chest measurement before the parcel ships.

Who should skip

You need the fit settled before the order ships, or you would rather not chase flat measurements first. The S–XL labels here are not a numeric size.

Editor verdict

At $7.01, a 250 g/m² loose cotton crew-neck is strong value. Our flat measurements sat inside the 2 cm tolerance and the fabric weighed on spec. The gap is sizing: S–XL is not the brand's numeric system.

Good honest writeup, matched my experience. Weighed mine at 247g on my kitchen scale so basically on spec. Only thing I'd add - the shoulders run narrow, so if you're broad up top the sizing gap hurts even more. Print quality still shocking for the money.

Got the third colourway (the cream/off-white one). Slightly more see-through than the darker prints but not bad at all with an undershirt. Stitching on the collar held up after two washes. Honestly better than a lot of stuff I've paid triple for.

Fabric is legit for the price, no argument there. But the S–XL range is basically two real sizes stretched across four labels. I'm 178cm 70kg and the L fit like a weird M. Return shipping would've cost more than the shirt so I just kept it. Fine for layering I guess.

$7.01 for a Margiela print is unreal. Washed mine cold inside out and the print didn't crack or fade at all. Flat measurements matched what they posted within like half a cm on the chest. Don't sleep on this if you're between sizes though, seriously size up.

Ordered two of these after reading this. The 250 g/m² weight is no joke, it's thicker than my $30 blanks. Went with the black and the washed grey. Only complaint is the size gap - I'm normally a solid M but the M fits snug and the L is noticeably boxy. Ordered up for the second one and it worked out better.
