Review details and specifications

The Celine all-over print green shorts sit at $5.22 on the underlying Weidian listing (SKU 7717465313, reduced from $5.96). At that price nobody is buying tailoring, so our test focused on the three things a cheap polyester short usually gets wrong: measured fit, waistband behaviour and what happens after a wash. We ordered the green pair and logged everything before writing a line of this review.

What arrived and what we checked

Our sample arrived folded in a plain poly bag with no hangtag, no care label beyond the printed listing text and no branded packaging. We photographed it under a daylight lamp, laid it flat and took single-layer measurements against the listing's own size chart. We then checked seam stitching at the crotch and hem, the drawstring cord and its eyelets, and print alignment across the front panel, side seams and back.

Flat measurements, size L sample

PointOur measurement (flat)Note
Waist, relaxed38 cm acrossDrawstring cinched shut
Waist, stretched46 cm acrossFabric limit; there is no elastic
Hip56 cm acrossWidest point, about 2 cm below the waistband
Front rise26 cmLow-rise; sits below the navel
Inseam13 cmMid-thigh hem
Outseam44 cmWaistband to hem along the side seam
Leg opening30 cm acrossStraight leg, deliberately roomy

The listing allows a 1–2 cm measurement tolerance. Our waist and hip figures landed inside that range, so the chart is usable as a starting point — but it publishes no flat numbers of its own, which is why we keep the log above.

Print or solid? The listing contradicts itself

This is the one detail worth settling before you pay. The product title says all-over print; the listing's own pattern field says solid colour. Our green pair is clearly printed, with a repeating light monogram-style motif running across both legs, over a solid green waistband and matching drawstring cord. The same short shape is listed in apricot, black and green.

The listing's pattern field reads "solid colour" while the title reads "all-over print". Treat that as a description mismatch to confirm with the seller, with photos, before ordering.

Motif alignment was better than we expected at this price: the print lines up across the front panel and continues over the side seam without an obvious break. The back panel shows slight drift of a few millimetres where the fabric was cut, which is normal for an all-over print and not visible when worn.

Fit, waistband and the drawstring

This is a genuinely loose, straight-leg cut with a low-rise waist closed by a drawstring rather than a belt. There are no belt loops at all, so the fit is set by the cord tension and nothing else. On our sample the cord slid smoothly, held tension through a full day without slipping, and the eyelet stitching survived repeated cinching.

Because the waistband rides below the navel, waist measurement alone is a poor guide. If you are between sizes and want a closer fit, size down; if you want the shorts to hang like the catalogue image, order your usual size and rely on the cord to take up the slack. Teens and casual wearers are the stated target, and the roomy hip measurement supports that.

Fabric, heat and one wash cycle

The fabric is polyester with a standard thickness and slight stretch, described as breathable, wrinkle-free, stain-resistant and colourfast. In practice: fine in air conditioning and shade, warmer than cotton in direct sun, which is expected for polyester and worth knowing in a Singapore summer. A splash of iced coffee beaded on the surface and wiped away without leaving a mark, matching the stain-resistant description.

We ran one cold machine wash with a colour catcher. Results: no visible dye bleed, no new wrinkles straight out of the drum, no measurable shrinkage beyond half a centimetre, and air-dry in roughly an hour. Long-term colourfastness across many cycles is a different question, and we could not find buyer reports on this listing at the time of testing, so that part of the claim stays open rather than confirmed.

Price and value at $5.22

Set expectations by category: this is a printed polyester short, not a tailored garment. Stitching was tidy at the stress points, the drawstring hardware is basic but functional, and the print held up in our single wash. For $5.22 — or three colourways for the price of one mid-range pair — it earns its place as a rotation short rather than a centrepiece. Style it with a plain tee and sneakers, or over the top of a hoodie for the layered sport-casual look the listing implies.

We scored it 4.2 / 5: good fabric behaviour and a genuinely adjustable waist, held back mainly by the printed-versus-solid description conflict and the unproven long-run colourfastness.

How we tested

We ordered the green pair, photographed it under a daylight lamp and logged flat waist, hip, rise, inseam, outseam and leg-opening figures against the listing chart. We checked crotch and hem stitching, drawstring hardware, print alignment across panels, and ran one cold wash with a colour catcher.

Is the short printed or solid?

Our green sample is printed, but the listing's pattern field says solid colour while the title says all-over print. Ask the seller to confirm with photos before ordering if the finish matters to you.

How does the waist run?

It is low-rise and closed by a drawstring, with our size L measuring 38 cm across relaxed and 46 cm stretched. There are no belt loops, so measure your hips as well as your waist and size down for a closer fit.

Did the print survive a wash?

One cold machine wash with a colour catcher produced no visible dye transfer, bleeding or new wrinkles, and no measurable shrinkage. Colourfastness over many cycles remains unproven.

What works

  • Print runs cleanly across the front panel and over the side seam
  • Drawstring held tension all day and survived a cold machine wash
  • Dried fast with no wrinkles, dye bleed or measurable shrinkage

Watch-outs

  • Pattern field says solid while the title says all-over print
  • Low-rise drawstring waist has no belt loops or structure

Who this suits

Anyone after a cheap, loose polyester short for summer heat, sport or lounging, in sizes M to 5XL, who will confirm the printed finish and their hip measurement with the seller first.

Who should skip

Buyers who want a structured, belted waistband, a fitted cut, or verified long-run colourfastness. Skip it too if the listing's print description has to be guaranteed before you pay.

Editor verdict

A light, loose summer short whose drawstring does real work, priced at $5.22. Confirm the printed version before ordering, since the listing's pattern field still reads solid.

Third pair I've bought at this price point and the best fit by far. Confirm the printed version first like the log says — my first order got mixed up — but once you get the right one it's a steal. Colour catcher came out barely tinted, so the dye is holding well.

these are light, like really light. wore them two days straight in 90 degree heat, no complaints. waist measurement matched flat-lay within a quarter inch. i did a cold wash, air dried, no issues. just wish the listing was clearer about the printed variant, took me a minute to figure out

Price is unbeatable at $5.22 but be careful. The green print I received had a slightly different pattern placement than the chart showed, tape print sits a bit higher on the leg. Not a dealbreaker but confirm with the seller which printed version they're shipping before you commit. Wash held up fine though.

Ran mine through one cold cycle with a color catcher sheet like the writeup suggested and zero bleeding, zero shrinking. Fabric stays loose and light, perfect for summer. For five bucks I expected way worse. Sizing runs generous so if you're between sizes, size down.

Got the green ones for $5.22 and honestly the print looks sharper in person than the listing photo. I measured the waist flat at 15.5 inches on a size M, which matches their chart within half an inch. Only thing — I ordered before realizing there might be a printed version vs a plain one. Double check which one you're getting, my first cart had the wrong variant selected.
